Vumatel is currently experiencing the following issue:

Vumatel technicians are currently investigating. There is no ETR at the moment

Vumatel team has arrived on site investigating the remaining links down. 
They discovered another break in the area where municipalities extending the road damaged the infrastructure.

 The civil Vumatel team is currently onsite stringing the 144F link cable for Winnie Mandela Zone 5.

 The incident has been placed on hold. The Vumatel team will continue in the morning with repairs  

 

Update (14/05/2026 @ 22:13):  

 Vumatel technicians have completed verification and are now splicing tray 11, while stringing of the 144F link cable for Winnie Mandela Zone 5 is still in progress. Next update to follow at 01:00 AM.  

 

Update (14/05/2026 @ 19:42):  

 Side A splicing has been completed, while Side B splicing and fibre verification are currently in progress on tube 2. Next update to follow at 22:00. . More updates to follow.

Vumatel technicians are currently splicing tray 10 on the 288F, while stringing is in progress at Site B, however MTN and Eskom are both affected and Etwatwa is currently without power. Next update at 19:00.

Vumatel Technicians have completed preparation on the 288F at Side A and splicing has started, while the team on Side B is still stringing towards the endpoint and closing in.

Site A Bossal inserted by AG, cables tensioned and dropped to the manhole successfully and crossing the road. Still stringing 288F & 48F. Halfway done. Still going to site B.

Vumatel technicians still have to string 1300m of the 288F link cable. 
TLB's still required for trenching, ANO confirmed that prep work will resume in the daylight and repair will resume tomorrow morning

144F stringing completed. Side A & B preparations are currently in progress. The civil team is proceeding with stringing the next cable while the maintenance team continues preparations. More updates will be shared

The Vumatel team has completed planting the second pole and trenching for the drop to the core AG. The next update will be shared at 14h00, as the team is still busy with pole planting and stringing.

Update (12/05/2026 @ 20:14):  

 2 x poles installed &
1 x Manhole, Stringing of 144F in progress & it will be completed tonight. | Tomorrow stringing of 288F will start while splicing Etwatwa 144f link cable is in progress.

 Manhole planted, 1st pole planted. Maintainance team auditing, team still planting more while stringing. Next update @20:00 . More updates to follow

Vumatel technician met with the municipality onsite to review their excavation plans. This will help us implement a more sustainable fix while allowing us to continue work alongside their ongoing activities. 
Further updates will be shared as progress is made

Please ignore previous communication. The Vumatel team is currently onsite with the 144F and 48F cables. We are still awaiting an additional team from Melrose with the 288F cable, as well as the delivery of poles

Vumatel repairs are currently on hold as we are dependent on a third-party contractor to attend a joint site meeting. This meeting is required to determine the scope of work
