Vumatel is currently experiencing the following issue:

Vumatel  technicians are currently investigating. There is no ETR at the moment.

 Vendor technicians have re-spliced the fibres to restore connectivity 


Update (21/01/2026 @ 08:52):

 A high loss was detected on an overhead optic fiber cable 4.7km from Louis Trichardt between Bandelierskop and Farm Mampakuil. Technicians are on site investigating  

 

Update (21/01/2026 @ 06:49):

Optic fiber cable technicians are on site investigating with the assistance of the Network field technician. Update to follow at 08:30 

 

Update (21/01/2026 @ 06:21):

An overhead optic fiber cable was damaged 19.6km from Nzhelele between Khalavha and Sibasa on 2026-01-20 at 01:58. Splicing was completed but systems remained down due to additional partial damage 20.4km from Nzhelele. Technicians still investigating.  

 

Update (21/01/2026 @ 05:32):

 Network field technician arrived at Nzhelele and confirmed that the optic fiber cable is partially damaged 20.4km towards Sibasa. Cable technicians are being re-dispatched to investigate as it is suspected that the service provider damaged the optic fiber

Feedback requested from vendor, awaiting next update

Splicing was completed however systems are still down. Network field technician being dispatched to investigate further. Awaiting ETA

 

Update (20/01/2026 @ 23:18):

Heavy rainfall subsided and Optic fibre cable technicians resumed repairs. Splicing was completed at the first joint and is in progress at the second. Systems are being monitored for status changes.  

 

Update (20/01/2026 @ 21:57):

Heavy rain is causing a delay. Contractors have hauled in 1500m of cable to effect repairs. Cable preparation has commenced on the second joint. Next Update 22:30

 Contractors have hauled in 1500m of cable to effect repairs. Cable preparation is in progress. Next Update 20:30

 Contractor is on site busy hauling 1500m of cable to effect repairs. 50% cable hauling is completed thus far. tech still onsite busy splicing  . More updates to follow.

Contractor is on site busy hauling 1500m of cable to effect repairs. 10% cable hauling is completed thus far. Next Update 16:00.

An overhead optic fibre cable was damaged 19.6km from Nzhelele Exchange between Khalavha and Sibasa on 20/01/2026 at 01:58. 2500m optic cable to be replaced for repairs. The service provider has been dispatched to fetch the material from the store.

Service Provider Richard has been dispatched to fetch the material from the store and is expected to be on site at 13:00.

Vendor technicians are still working on the restoration, and additional information will be shared as it becomes available.

Optic fiber cable technicians have the damage, the cable was damaged by the tree that fell onto it. An optic fiber cable technician is going to log a TBI to replace 2500m of cable.

Cable tech is still searching for the damage. He is testing from a nearby joint. Update to follow at 07:45.  

 

Update  20/01/2025 @ 05:29

 An overhead optic fiber cable was damaged 19.6km from Nzhelele Exchange between Khalavha and Sibasaon 2026-01-20 at 01:58. Network field and Optic fiber cable technicians are enroute. ETA: 04:30 and 05:30 respectively
