Vumatel is currently experiencing the following issue:

Affected Area/s: Thohoyandou P West  

Impact: Customers may experience no connectivity. 

 

Vumatel technicians are currently investigating. There is no ETR at the moment.

Vumatel confirmed that the network field technician are onsite at both stations investigating 

 

Update (12/01/2026 @17:29):

Vumatel confirmed that an overhead optic fiber cable was damaged at 25.62km from Dzanani towards Louis Trichardt. Optic fibre cable technician says that they completed the splicing. 

Systems are still affected. Network field technician is being dispatched to assist from Dzanani

 The cable jointers have confirmed that they are aborting the cable hauling activity and will use the partially damaged cable to patch between the joints. He is busy with preparations on the first joint.

 Vendor technicians are still working on repairs. Additional updates will be provided as they become available.  

 

Update (12/01/2026 @ 12:43):

 Cable field staff have confirmed a second partial break on the fiber. The plan is to restore the first break and patch the affected systems to reduce overall repair downtime. The next update is scheduled for 14:00.

Cable was damaged by unknown parties at 620m from Thohoyandou towards Sibasa. Contractors have hauled in 400m of cable to effect permanent repairs.

An underground optic fiber cable was damaged by unknown parties at 620m from Thohoyandou towards Sibasa. Heavy rains caused the delay. Contractors have hauled in 400m of cable to effect repairs. Splicing is still in progress.

The cable has been replaced and technicians are currently carrying out repairs.

Update (11/01/2026 @ 17:03):

Splicing is in progress at the first joint, while cable hauling is underway toward the second joint. According to the cable field staff, preparations at the second joint are expected to commence at 17:15. The next update is scheduled for 18:30.

Update (11/01/2026 @ 14:16):

 As per the vendor, an underground optic fiber cable was damaged by unknown parties at the 620 m mark from Thohoyandou towards Sibasa on 2026-01-11 at 03:24. Hauling progress has reached 60%.

 Vendor Cable field staff and the service provider are on site and have confirmed that 400 m of cable will be required to effect repair  

 

Update (09/01/2026 @ 19:31):

 Vendor technicians are still hauling in the optic fiber cable. Progress update to follow at 21:00.

 

Update (09/01/2026 @ 16:20):

 A Theft, Break, Incident reference was logged for a service provide to replace 1km of optic fiber cable to effect repairs. Arrangements in progress. Update to follow at 17:00.  . More updates to follow.

 

Update (09/01/2026 @ 15:28):

 Vumtel technicians discovered that cable was damaged by unknown party 22.16km from Thohoyandou. Technicians arrived at the break distance and are searching for the physical damage. . More updates to follow.
