Vumatel has scheduled the following planned maintenance:

Start Date & Time: 28/07/2026 @ 09:30 AM

End Date & Time: 21/08/2026 @ 14:00 PM

Duration:  18  days

Affected Areas: Kuils River South

Impact: Customers may experience no connectivity at some point during maintenance.

Update (18/08/2026 @ 08:10):

A temporary repair was previously completed following a cable strike in Kuilsriver South. To provide a permanent solution, the affected fibre cables will be rerouted away from the premises boundary and into newly installed underground infrastructure, eliminating the risk associated with the current cable alignment.

The work will involve constructing a new manhole and connecting it to the existing network using two 7-way ducts. Once the new route is established, the existing fibre cables will be cut over and re-routed into the new infrastructure. Technicians will then prepare and fusion splice four 288F cables and two 144F cables to restore end-to-end connectivity. Following completion of the splicing activities, fallout testing and service restoration will be performed to verify network integrity and confirm all affected services are operating as expected.

Implementation Plan

Days 1–2: Trench for the new manhole and install two 7-way ducts connecting the new and existing manholes.
Days 3–4: Cut over and reroute the existing fibre cables into the new route.
Days 5–6: Prepare four 288F and two 144F fibre cables for splicing.
Days 7–8: Complete fusion splicing of all six fibre cables.
Days 8–9: Perform fallout testing, restore services, and verify network performance.
