Kindly note that we are currently pending ETA from the team attending the site in order to perform further testing.

Update (29/01/2026 @ 01:56):

Our upstream vendor has advised that the previously provided ETR will need to be revised due to the need for more time to test all links that are showing as down. Their teams will need to test between their nodes and ours to ensure all losses are cleared.

Update (28/01/2026 @12:34):

Please be advised that Open fibre maintenance teams are currently carrying out repair work. An Estimated Time of Restoration of 20 hours has been provided, and we will continue to share updates on the repair status as they become available.

Please note that this matter has also been escalated to the Open Fibre and upstream providers’ EXCO teams, who are treating the incident as a priority

Update (28/01/2026 @ 10:44):

Please be advised that a major outage has been caused by vandalism in the Soshanguve area. In addition, the control joint was stolen, which has resulted in a delayed overall Estimated Time of Restoration, as maintenance teams are required to identify and

restore the affected backhaul links individually. Please find the site images attached for reference.

Update (28/01/2026 @ 09:21):

Please be advised that repair work is still in progress. The maintenance teams are addressing the affected links individually, and due to the extent of the damage along the route, a definitive Estimated Time of Restoration cannot be provided at this stage.

We remain in constant communication with all relevant parties to ensure services are restored as soon as possible and will share an update once an ETR becomes available.

Update (28/01/2026 @ 01:18):

Teams are busy with splicing fibre cables and ensuring light loss is minimal. An ETR is yet to be shared, but the repair is receiving full attention. We will continue to follow up until the damage is completely repaired and links are back online.

Update (27/01/2026 @22:25):

Teams are still on-site testing links to ensure that all affected cables are attended to and respliced. The severity of the damage has caused a long delay in resolving the downtime, resulting in an ETR not being shared as yet. This has been escalated at

an EXCO level and is receiving full attention from all parties involved. We will continue to provide updates as we receive them.

Update (27/01/2026 @15:04):

Kindly note that repairs of the joint is 65% complete and repairs are still ongoing.

The team will commence with the splicing once the work on the joint has been completed. There is no ETR at the moment.

Update (27/01/2026 @17:54):

Open fibre teams are on site, individually testing links to confirm operational status. Once testing is done the offline links will be respliced and subsequently an ETR should be shared.

Update (27/01/2026 @14:03):

Please be informed that repair work is still underway. Unfortunately, due to the extent of the damage, the maintenance team is unable to provide an estimated time of restoration at this stage.

However, we remain in constant communication with them to ensure that service is restored as soon as possible.

Update (27/01/2026 @12:36):

Kindly note that teams are still working on repairing the joint. Once the joint has been fully repaired teams can further proceed with splicing.

Update (27/01/2026 @10:55):

Kindly note that Open fibre teams are conducting repairs on the joint. Further equipment is being prepared to complete the repairs

Once the joint has been fully repaird teams can further proceed with splicing. There is no ETR at the moment.

Update (27/01/2026 @ 08:55):

Kindly note that teams are currently still splicing the affected cables.

Due to the vandalism, the control joint was taken, and teams need to ID backends per link; for this reason, a delay in repairs is experienced.

Update (26/01/2026 @ 23:48):

Our upstream provider has informed us that due to a large cable break caused by vandalism, new cables will need to be floated and respliced into the remaining intact infrastructure. Teams are onsite at the affected areas, beginning this process. An ETR will

be shared once the cable ducts have been repaired and the necessary length of cable has been floated between the affected runs.

Update (26/01/2026 @ 22:09):

A fibre break was discovered by our upstream provider and their teams are currently working to resolve the fault. An ETR has not been shared, but we will continue to follow up and provide you with updates as we receive them.
